Dance Routine Choreography
SUU EDGE Project
There were some choreography visions that did not translate well to a successful routine, these sections were tweaked and evolved over the course of the cleaning process. The cleaning process consisted of walking through each section and each movement, making sure the dancers matched as a team and had a full understanding of their body control and placement. An example of a section that was worked on multiple time, trying to force the original vision, was a turn section were half the dancers go one direction while the others take the other direction. The team was struggling with the technique of the turns choreographed and how they coincided with the previous movement. This section was changed to dynamic ripples that ended looking clean and well danced. This situation turned out to be very beneficial to the team as idividuals. Team mates were able to work together, brainstorm their own creativity and suggest their choreography ideas. Together we created a fun section everyone felt confident about!
Another variable that affected the outcome was the quantity of dancers; over the time for the process of this project’s completion, one dancer chose to leave the team. This changed every formation and some of the movement. Furthermore, on the day of the final performance, two dancers were sick which left two holes in formations through out the dance. In the end, I was able to rise above all the challenges and use problem solving skills and enthusiasm to move the team forward with this routine. I learned to make the most of what you are given, and always share kindess and support.
Once my deliverable was created and uploaded to google drive, I was very disappointed in the quality I provided. I believe this is the greatest take away I have from this project, my videos all seemed clear and quality as I worked with them on my mobile devices, but they did not transfer with that quality. I hope to rectify this mistake and upload a higher quality version of the performance; foruntately, this dance will be performed many times over the next two months and that can be fixed!
I found a passion for offering the experience of confidence!
Personal Reflection Quotes:
“Today we performed half of our dance at my half way milestone. The girls did great and brought a lot of energy for their audience. I noticed all the younger girls let nerves get the best of them and would speed up the counts or forget motions they had solid before. I think it will be good to revisit the parts they are less confident in before moving on to learning the rest of the dance.”
“After being disappointed in a few parts that are just not working out with the girls, I realized they could become a greater part of my creativity. I allowed them to take three sections that had never worked out very well and shape them with their own ideas and choreography. It felt great to foster that opportunity for them and then it was fun to see how much more they loved the parts they themselves had worked together to create.”
